A 19-YEAR-OLD girl of Lusaka’s Kaunda Square Stage Two has sued her friend over payment of K2,000 which she borrowed from her promising to pay back the following day.

Margaret Chibonko was appearing in the Chelstone local court before senior magistrate Charity Milambo in a matter in which she sued her friend Jessy Mukumwa, 21, of the same area.

“She came to me for help on 4th June, 2019 asking if I can lend her a K2,000 which she would retain the following day. I called her to remind her but she couldn’t pick up my calls and keeps promising me that she will give it back immediately she has money,” she said.

Chibonko told the court that the money she gave Mukumwa was not hers but her employer’s.

“I sacrificed to give her the money because she is my friend. I even told her mother about it, who promised to pay back but nothing has happened. The last time I called her she told me that her supervisor had fired her the same day,” she said.

“I even informed the elders of the church but nothing happened.”

In Defence, Mukumwa said she had not refused to pay Chibonko the money.

It’s just that the day she was supposed to pay her back, she got fired from work.

Then court ordered her to pay K2,500 at once effective July 17, 2019.
