THE Choma Local Court has granted divorce to a couple who have been married for nine years after the wife discovered that her husband had sex with her friend on their matrimonial bed.

Otria Handuba, 32, sued her husband Golden Hankwa, both of Choma, seeking divorce saying he was promiscuous and irresponsible.

Handuba also accused Hankwa of not supporting the family.

She told the court that the two got married in 2010 and have one child together.

Handuba said problems started a few years later when her husband became irresponsible with his drinking and promiscuous behaviour.

She said Hankwa once beat up their son for telling her that his father had brought another woman in their house while she was away.

Later, her friend also confessed that she had slept with him and asked for forgiveness.

Her friend said she had slept with her husband on their matrimonial bed.

Handuba narrated that their marriage had become sexless and that her husband was fond of stealing her money.

But in defence, Hankwa said his wife was the one who used to deny him conjugal rights and never listened to him even when they worked together as husband and wife.

The court, after analysing all the evidence, granted the couple divorce and told them to share the property equally.

It advised the two to live in harmony and not as enemies as there was a child between them.

“I therefore order that the father be allowed to visit the child, and should be paying K200 every month as child maintenance,” the magistrate said.
