POLICE in Siavonga district have been given a one month ultimatum to flush out criminals in the district.

Siavonga district commissioner Lovemore Kanyama said in a telephone interview that police in the area should without fail bring to book all the perpetrators of violence within month.

Mr Kanyama said police patrols should be intensified day and night so that the men and women in uniform could get familiar with what was taking place in the district.

“Those that are in the district for the first time and are failing to disclose reasons why they are here should be picked for interrogation,” he said.

Mr Kanyama said something had to be done to curb crime which was on the rise.

He said the crime was claiming many innocent lives among other calamities in the district.

Mr Kanyama expected police to be on top of things and do something about the situation which he said was posing serious security challenges.

“A solution needs to be found because we risk losing investors especially fish farmers who may feel discouraged if the situation is not controlled,” Mr Kanyama said.

He appealed to residents to report strange looking faces in their respective communities to the police for immediate action.

Mr Kanyama said even those who were suspected of protecting criminals should be rounded up.

He said Siavonga was a peaceful town that accommodated every person who meant well and that it wished to continue like that.
