A LUSAKA woman has been divorced in the Chilenje local court for being disrespectful to her husband who she also denies sex.
Rachael Mwale,27, of Kabwata Site and Service was sued by Yande Chachile,29, an administrative registration officer of the same area for divorce.
Chachile said he married his Mwale in 2017 and have two children together after damaging her virginity.
“I was taken to court by her parents. The court charged me K5, 000 which I paid. I later paid K6,500 dowry,
“From the beginning of our marriage we had disputes. My wife doesn’t like to be corrected when she does something wrong. She rushes to tell her relatives and they threaten me in all sorts of ways,” he said.
He said Mwale did not want to cook or to have sex with him for reasons he did not know, adding that his wife went to the hospital for a contraception injection without telling him.
“I want to have more children, two are not enough. She listens to only to her family. I can’t control her. Her relatives have threatened to kill me several times. I am tired of this marriage and it’s affecting our children,” he said.
Chachile told senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri that last week Mwale packed her things and left the matrimonial home when she was served with a summon. She took everything in the house including his materials from office.
In defence Mwale said her husband was cruel because he beats her smoked “chamba”.
“I told him to stop smoking dagga. He tells our 3 year old son that he is not his child, that he should ask me who his real father is,” she said.
“We have never stayed in harmony in our house. He is very violent. Recently he beat me and I fainted, I reported him to the police and there is a pending case there,” she said.
“He gives his brother his wallet and ATM card to keep for him. We went together for counseling at YWCA but nothing has changed. He threatens to kill me and take his own life. I want a divorce because he can kill me,” she said.
The court granted divorce without compensation and ordered custody of the children to the woman and Chachile to maintain them with K600 per month.
