A WOMAN of Lusaka’s Kalingalinga Township has been ordered by the Boma Local Court to compensate another woman of the same area with K1, 000 for calling her a prostitute.

This was a case in which Peggy Mambwe, 28, dragged Margaret Zulu, 26 to court for calling her prostitute at a bar.

Mambwe told Senior Local Court Magistrate Prudence Bwalya that Zulu defamed her by calling her a prostitute when they were drinking beers at a bar.

“I know this woman because she insults me and calls me names all the time. She calls me a prostitute and says I’m sick. One time I followed her to ask her why she calls me a prostitute,

“The response I got was just insults. She called me a prostitute at the bar and asked me why I’m chasing after a man who is younger than me,” Mambwe said.

In defence Zulu denied the allegations and told the court that it was in fact Mambwe who called her and her friends prostitutes.

“It was on a Sunday at the bar when Peggy told my friend to call her brother who was inside the bar as we were outside. She insisted that my friend calls her brother and even got upset and said ‘mwe ma hule’,

The court found that exchange of words took place and that it was Zulu who followed Mambwe to go and apologize, meaning there were some bad words she uttered.

Moreover, Mambwe did not want to be compensated but just asked for peace.

Magistrate Bwalya then ordered Zulu to compensate Mambwe with K1, 000.
