A TRADITIONAL leader in Petauke has appealed to government to rehabilitate the Kaumbwe and Kaulu bridges as soon as possible.
Village Headman Chenjerani in Chief Kalindawalo area said in an interview that most bridges in his area were in a dilapidated state and had become death traps.
He said the two bridges had been neglected for a long time and that there was urgent need for government to consider working on them.
“The bridges have remained in the same state for a long time thereby subjecting people to a lot of suffering.
“My appeal to government is to urgently work on Kaumbwe and Kaulu Bridges as they are a danger to the travelling people,” said headman Chenjerani.
Headman Chenjerani also called on the area Member of Parliament Dora Siliya to urgently find means of addressing the challenge and suggested that soldiers must be engaged in the assignment.
“The Councillor alone cannot manage huge tasks such as bridge rehabilitation, so it is important for the Member of Parliament to swing into action,” he said.
He said should the bridges remain in the same state up to the on-set of the rainy season, people would be subjected to worse suffering.
