THE Chilenje Local Court has ordered a Lusaka man to pay the parents of a girl whose virginity he damaged and later made pregnant, K6, 000 as compensation.

Stanislus Chanda, 24, of Kalikiliki Township was sued by Sylvia Chishala, 45, of the same area.

Chishala said Chanda damaged and impregnated her 16-year-old daughter last year who was doing her grade 8 at Mbereshi in Luapula Province.

“I received a call in July last year from my relatives where my daughter was living informing me that my daughter was pregnant,

“I talked to her on phone and she confirmed that she was pregnant and that Chanda was responsible. I asked her which Chanda. She said it was her church mate,” she said.

Chishala said her daughter told her that Chanda had gone to Mbereshi because his relatives lived there.

“He asked her to visit him at the house he was living.  She went there and he had sex with her. I called my relatives. We went to Chanda’s house in Kalikiliki, but he wasn’t there, Chishala said Chanda’s uncle said nothing could be done because Chanda, the star witness, was not around.

“I want Chanda to compensate me for damaging my daughter and getting her pregnant,” Chishala said.

The two were appearing before senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri.

In defence Chanda said he went to the village in Mbereshi last year in June.

He said two weeks later his uncle called him asking if he knew Chishala’s and he agreed he did.

“My uncle said he received a call from the girl’s aunt informing him that she was pregnant and that I am responsible. I denied it because we never met and I never had sex with her,

“I went to her school to look for her to confirm what I heard but I didn’t find her. I deny the claim because I never had sex with her. I want to do a DNA test so that I can prove that I never slept with her or impregnated her,” Chanda said.

The girl said Chanda was the first man she slept with after he forced himself on her and impregnated her.

The court found Chanda guilty of the offence and ordered him to pay K6,000 compensation for damage with the first instalment of K500 effective July.

The court advised Chanda to do a DNA test to confirm that the child was his.
