TAEKWONDO is growing and receiving a lot of attention in Zambia, says Lusaka Leopards Taekwondo coach Patson Ngoma.

Ngoma said that the sport had been on the rise in Zambia with the introduction of tournaments organized by the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYCD).

He told Sun Sport that the sport had attracted a lot of interest from surrounding communities such as Chazanga, Kabanana and Mandevu.

Ngoma said that he had been coach since 2012 and had gone as far as attaining a black belt in the sport. “Bafana bambili bama bwela elo makamaka bakavalila ma sikulu na pama weekend tinkala na bafana bambili bamene tiphunzisa,’’

“Bafana aba choka ku ma komboni kosiyana siyana monga Mandevu, Matero, Chipata na Garden so, elo ine Taekwondo ninayamba mu 2012 apa nili na black belt manje,’’ he said.

Ngoma called on more youths to join the sport as prospective athletes were trained and taught about the rules of the game in about three months before being engaged in competitions.

OYDC had been organizing Taekwondo tournaments every weekend under its league called the Teulings.

The Taekwondo tournament has attracted three teams Zed Lions , OlympaAfrica and Lusaka Leopards where Ngoma was coach.
