Playboy hubby divorces insulting wife

A BUSINESS man of New Kasama in Lusaka has divorced his wife of four years at the Boma Local Court for disrespecting and insulting him with impunity.
Alpha Monze,30, told senior local court magistrate Peggy Nyambe that he got married to Petina Chatola, 28, of Kaunda Square in 2015 and since then they had never agreed on a single thing as a couple.
Monze said they had been on separation for two months and he just wanted to part ways with his wife to give each other some space.
“She doesn’t give me respect as a husband in the house and, also, she insults me a lot. Each time I try to reason with her to discuss something she doesn’t agree,” he said.
“She also refuses me to get the child with me since we are on separation, hence my coming to court,” Monze said.
In defence, Chatola told the court that her husband was a playboy who slept out every weekend.
“My husband sleeps out every weekend. He goes on Friday and comes back on Sunday evenings. He stopped me playing with my single friends but he is still playing with his single friends, which is not fair,” she said.
“I was the one who was planning to summon him for divorce because I have suffered in my matrimonial home. I just want divorce. I am really tired of this marriage because this man is not responsible. I am pregnant right now, but he doesn’t show any support,” Chatola said.
She said his husband beat her, and that one time he beat her while she was pregnant.
“Actually, this is the happiest day of my life because I have suffered enough in this marriage. This divorce is quite a relief to me,” Chatola said.
Monze also insisted on divorce.
The court granted them divorce and Soko should maintain the child at K500 every month and June month-end and pay Chatola K300 monthly as spouse maintenance for one year.
