PLIGHT OF FREEDOM FIGHTERS RELIVED

IT IS unfortunate that freedom fighters are facing economic hardships despite the important role they played in liberating Zambia.
This was said yesterday by former freedom fighter George Mulusa in Lusaka at a fundraising braai at the Russian Centre for the women and men who fought for the liberation of Zambia.
Mr Mulusa said some freedom fighters were suffering and those who had died were buried in unmarked graves without any appreciation.
He said the economic hardships had not spared freedom fighters who were living in miserable conditions as if they never struggled for Zambia.
He commended President Edgar Lungu for honouring and recognising freedom fighters.
Mr Mutuna said it could only be done by a God-fearing leader.
The freedom fighter also commended those who sat during the National Dialogue Forum (NDF) for passing a resolution to legislate socio-economical support for freedom fighters.
He said the fundraising braai was aimed at raising money for freedom fighters that lived in remote parts of Zambia.
And Minster of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Dennis Wachinga called for redefining of the word ‘freedom fighters’.
Dr Wanchinga said the issue of national struggle was not about what people had done.
He regretted that this year’s event had not attracted many freedom fighters compared to last year.
