Siavonga DC warns hospital raiders

SIAVONGA District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has warned that police officers will start guarding the district hospital to keep away trouble-makers in the habit of disturbing health workers during emergencies.
In a statement issued to the Sun, Mr Kanyama said the bad behaviour being exhibited by some members of the public, especially political party cadres from a named political party, towards doctors and nurses during emergencies must come to an end.
“I will have no option but to have Siavonga District Hospital maned by State police as a way of protecting my officers,” he said.
Mr Kanyama urged the members of public to respect health workers at the hospital.
Kanyama said the local residents must learn to appreciate the work rendered to them by health officials.
“We all run to them when our health is under threat. Let’s have order while visiting or during emergencies at the health institution. Let’s allow our doctors and nurses do their work in peace,” he said.
Mr Kanyama assured the medics that they had the protection of his office.
He said what happened after the road accident involving three United Party for National Development (UPND) parliamentarians where individuals wanted to force their way into restricted wards at Siavonga District Hospital was uncalled for.
Mr Kanyama thanked cooperating partners for the continued support to the health institutions in the district.
He said Siavonga District Hospital had received a new motor vehicle. Mr Kanyama assured the cooperating partners that the motor vehicle and other equipment donated to other public institutions would be used wisely.
