Illegal manganese mining worries traditional leader

INCREASED illegal manganese mining in Mansa has worried Chief Chimese of the Ushi people.

 The traditional leader complained that many people had ventured into manganese mining in the area without licenses.

He pointed out that the move had resulted in the exploitation of the local’s people who were not benefiting much from their natural resource.

 Chief Chimese said some of the illegal miners were not following the laid down procedures in mining as they had gone to the extent of destroying crops of his subjects in search of the metal.

He said there was need for the Ministries of Lands and Mines to work closely with Chiefs to ensure that mining activities were conducted in a proper manner.-ZANIS
