SHOCKER: 500 metric tonnes of imported pork ribs heading to Zambia

THE Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has expressed displeasure over reports that Zambia has placed an import order for 500 metric tonnes of pork ribs.
ZNFU president Jervis Zimba has told Millennium Radio in an interview that the future of the agriculture sector is in limbo because people entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the local industry are doing the opposite.
Mr. Zimba says the diversification of the economy from mining to agriculture will remain a far-fetched idea as long as officials in the line ministries continue entertaining reckless imports from overseas on products which can be produced locally to meet demand.
Meanwhile, Mr. Zimba says the fight against foot and mouth disease in Southern and Eastern Provinces has not yielded desired results because Government workers who are supposed to be carrying out bio-security check points have abandoned the exercise, demanding for allowances.
