Government threatens to regulate usage of the US dollar

Written by on May 29, 2019

Deputy Secretary to cabinet Christopher Mvunga has warned that government will be forced to set regulations on the usage of the US dollar if business houses continue exploiting people.

Members of the public have complained that some business houses are quoting in dollars thereby neglecting the revocation of statutory instrument number 55.

Government revoked Statutory Instrument number (SI55) of 2013 with the hope of redeeming the Kwacha that was on free fall.

Mr Mvunga explained that the US dollar is not a legal tender and a customer should not be sent back for transacting in Kwacha.
