SUSPECTED shoddy construction works being carried out on Mandano Health Centre in Chavuma has angered district commissioner Benjamin Mufunga.

Mr Mufunga he said the named constructor  should have applied more cement to sand to make strong structures.

Speaking in an interview with the Sun, Mr Mufunga said he was disappointed that the company which knew very well the kind of sand in the area proceeded with what he suspected to be poor works at the health centre.

“Here in Chavuma, our sand needs a lot of cement for the blocks to be strong but the contractors are using one bag of cement to six wheelbarrows of sand, and this building may collapse,” he said.

Mr Mufunga however said the works at   three other health centres in the West Bank were satisfactory, but wondered why little effort was taken for Mandano Health Centre.

He said President   Edgar Lungu had taken a step of putting the district on its road map by taking development to all corners of Zambia and therefore it was imperative that good work was done.

Mr Mufunga also noted that the building of a district police post that had been under construction for three years was equally disappointing.

“I would like to appeal to the government to release funds for this project so that it can be completed because a police post is an important tool to the district in curbing crime,” he said.

Inspector General Kakoma Kanganja during his visit to the province last month assured that all police stations and posts would be completed when funds are released by the Ministry of Works and Supply.
