THE Boma Local Court has ordered a man of Lusaka’s Kabanana to compensate his neighbour with K1000 for allegedly insulting her.

This was a case in which Rosemary Mwale, 38, dragged her neighbour Chile Phiri, 38, to court after him and his wife insulted her and accused her of bewitching their daughter.

Mwale told Senior Local Court Magistrate Prudence Bwalya that one afternoon her son came home crying and reported that the neighbors’ son  had stoned him.

“I went there and asked her what my son had done and before I knew it her father came and when I told him what happened, he told me to just let them play because they are children. I told him it was not right to just ignore the situation then he started insulting and disrespecting me,” Mwale said.

She then decided to sue him and he told her to go ahead because he did not care.

“When we took the summons, we found he had run away from home but we knew later around 21:00hrs that he had received it because he and his wife insulted me,

“They were shouting insults until around 01:00hrs. They told me a lot of things the whole night and undressed me with their insults ‘chi dumbo iwe uli na nsembe pa matako,

“Panyo pako wani gulila summon chi mfwiti iwe’ they told me  that even if I go to court they will not stop insulting because that’s what they do. They also kept shouting that I should go and remove the witchcraft I did on their child because she had suddenly fallen sick,” Mwale said.

In defence Phiri denied ever insulting Mwale but said that he just heard noises at his house and when he went to check, he found Mwale’s child beating his child.

The court found that Phiri must have insulted Mwale because he did not provide enough evidence to defend himself and ordered him to compensate her  with K1,000.
