Difficult wife divorced, walks away with K10,000

A MAN of Lusaka’s Kalingalinga Compound has divorced his difficult wife in the Boma Local Court because the marriage forced him to start drinking beer. She has been awarded K10,000 compensation.
Tangu Nyendwa, 36, told Senior Local Court Magistrate Martha Tembo that he married Mary Kaonga, 31, in 2006 and problems started in the third year of their marriage when she lost respect for him.
Nyendwa told the court that his wife was dirty and careless and did not like to do chores around the house.
“When I come home around 18:00hrs that’s when she would start washing the plates and trying to clean up the house. She leaves relish in the pot until it goes bad and when I confront her she insults me,” he said.
Nyendwa also said his wife had caused problems between him and his workmates which has affected his work.
In defence Kaonga then told the court that problems in their marriage started long ago when her husband started having challenges at his place of work.
“He was dealing in phones and many times there were complaints from his customers. One of the people he works with him called me to tell me my husband caused a lot of problems at work because of losing people’s phones. He even had to stop working there,” Ms Kaonga said.
“He didn’t care about me and the kids. He even stopped paying school fees. He always said he had no money. He went to work in Chilanga. First he would disappear for 3 or 4 days without bringing anything home until he went for good one time,” Ms Kaonga said.
She tried to lie to him about their being child having been bashed by a car, but still he did not show up.
The court found that Nyendwa was the one who had caused many problems in their marriage.
Divorce was granted and Magistrate Tembo ordered Nyendwa to compensate Kaonga with K10, 000.
