RESIDENTS of Chirundu residents especially those from rural areas should make use of their civic leaders such as the councilors, district commissioner and Member of Parliament to have their challenges and complaints channeled to the government, says Chirundu Forum activist Kawana Mwangala.
Mr Mwangala said it was sad to note that farmers from Simaundu village a place where different vegetables were grown commercially were still in a deplorable state even after the rains had ceased.
He said government must help and empower the farmers of Simaundu in Mushungu ward with a good road network so that they could easily access markets.
“Not only that, even in times of emergency the place is difficult to access and that is why the councilors during their full council meetings should allocate some funds from the constituency development fund (CDF) to work on the road”, said Mr. Mwangala.
Mr. Mwangala noted with concern that some villages, such as of Kayuni, Chiliindi, Machavika and Pembere, were suffering and were in abject poverty because they lacked food and clean drinking water.
“It is very sad that the pupils are absconding classes because they do not have food. There is no way you can expect a child to go and concentrate in class on an empty stomach,” he said.
He has urged the security wings and other government departments to help by telling the truth in bringing out real issues.
Meanwhile, Chirundu district council secretary John Mwanza said that it was unclear if the Simaundu Road was under the Road development Agency (RDA) or under the council.
He however said road was a capital project and that was why the CDF committee did not approve it.
