Livestock to be monitored at toll gates

The National Roads Fund  agency has signed a memorandum of understanding with the ministry of livestock and fisheries for the utilization of toll gates for monitoring of movement of animal products amid disease outbreak in some parts of the country.

Speaking during the signing ceremony , NRFA chief executive officer Wallace Mumba says that the signing of the the memorandum of understanding is part of government’s policy of maximizing tolls gates as multi-sectoral one facilities.

Eng Mumba says that government through the agency wants to ensure that all sectors benefit from  such infrastructure in order to enhance economic development.

Meanwhile Ministry of fisheries and livestock permanent secretary David Shamulenge says government is losing huge sums due to the increase of outbreak of animal diseases hence it’s decision to engaging the NRFA in the monitoring of movement of animals.

Dr Shamulenge says that has spend over 30 million kwacha in disease control.
