Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo has called on inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja to take the necessary steps in ensuring that incidents of police officers shooting civilians come to an end.

Over the weekend a Police officer shot four people killing one and later shot himself.

And Mr. Kampyongo has described the incident as regrettable.

Mr. Kampyongo says the mandate of Zambia police officers is to protect the lives of citizens and not kill people.

He says police officers in uniform or not have a responsibility to safeguard lives at all costs.

He says in as much as they have despite suffering from certain challenges like other human beings police officers need to restrain themselves from using weapons meant for duty to fight their personal battles.

And Mr. Kampyongo has sent a message of condolence to the family of the man who was shot dead by the police officer. fdfffffff
