Junior tennis dying in Zambia?

THERE is need to promote tennis at junior level especially in schools, says former junior tennis seed one James Kaoma.
Kaoma observed that junior tennis had gone down in the Zambia compared to the old days when it was extremely active.
He was speaking in an interview with Sun Sports from his Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka where he was training.
Kaoma observed that there was need to invest in the sport especially at junior levels which in many cases lacked sponsors due the high affiliation fees.
He appealed to both government and the corporate world to work together with the Zambia Tennis Association (ZTA) to develop the sport.
Kaoma said that lack of sponsors had resulted in the failure by Zambia to participate at international tournaments, adding that the only tournaments that Zambians currently participated in were regional ones such as the Regional 5 tournament.
Kaoma who recently got promoted to the status of senior tennis player, further said that the International Tennis Federation (ITF) games were usually played every month which Zambia had missed.
He said that the continued shunning of these games by Zambia had contributed to Zambia’s dwindling fortunes in the sport.
