The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) has called on ZESCO to reconsider its proposed tariff hike owing to the economic hardships most people are faced with.
Union president Chingati Msiska says many of its members are in salary arrears and the hiking of electricity tariffs will worsen their living standards.
Mr Msiska told Millennium Radio that in as much as the power utility company wants to improve its service delivery, there is need to put consumer’s interests first.
ZESCO has applied to the Energy Regulation Board proposing to hike electricity tariffs, a move that has been received with mixed feelings by various stake holders.
