The ongoing Council Chairperson by election in Kafue district have been characterized by voter apathy.

A check by a Millennium Radio news crew in some parts of the district found some polling stations with less than 20 people on the queues.

But Kafue District Returning officer Kafuti Kaheko  says the turn out may improve towards the close of voting.

Mr Kaheko says despite some areas having a low turnout, some polling stations have recorded a good number of voters from the    time the polling stations opened at 06:00 hours.C

Meanwhile UPND candidate in the Kafue Council Chairperson by election Beatrice Kayuni has expressed concern over the low voter turnout .

Ms Kayuni is also confident the she will emerge victorious in today’s polls.C

And PF candidate Moono Simakoloyi is equally confident that the voter turnout will improve before the close of voting.

Retired Brig. Gen. Moono Simakoloyi is also confident that the people of Kafue  will vote for him as council chairperson.

And in a related development, Gears Initiative Zambia says polls in the Kafue Council Chairperson by election are progressing  very peaceful, calm and orderly with long queues in some polling Stations.

Gears Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi says the long queues are as a result of slowness of the polling staff attending to the voters in most of these polling stations.

Mr. Chipenzi says there is need to improve efficiency in electoral service provision at polling station level to encourage many voters who may be busy to vote.
