SMALL, DEVASTATING STRIKER
Birth and roots
The little man was born in Kitwe on 5 August, 1974, and launched his career at the highest platform with Power Dynamos.
Style of play
He was famously known for his dribbling style of turning this way and then that way, to lose his marker, similar to the playing fashion of former Zambia legend, Bernard Chanda and Ndola United’s cut-hero, Harrison “Muzalada” Bwalya.
Club career
His career blossomed while at Power Dynamos. He was 17 when the Arthur Davies team won the 1991 title.
The man of diminutive stature, who had just crossed over to rival town mates Nkana, had a clout about his stardom similar to that of former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen, coming onto the scene as if he were a comet of magic; becoming very popular and famous in the shortest possible time of having arrived on the Zambian soccer scene.
International career
The way he suddenly formed a fearsome twosome strike partnership with Kelvin Mutale, was praiseworthy from all stakeholders – the press, the ordinary fans and observers alike.
In a way, the tandem strike partenership that Simambe formed with Mutale, brought about close comparisons with the married of Bernard Chanda and Simon “Kaodi” Kaushi or that of Chanda and Godfrey Chitalu.
The way Simambe and Mutale jelled in such a short period of time, was something that brought about hope that the much-sought deadly twin-strike formation had finally been born.
Before long, the Gabon plane crash robbed the nation of a pretty flower before it could reach full maturity.
